SECU
With the new system SECU, Stora Enso Cargo Unit, the Stora Enso group takes an important step towards an environment friendly, efficient and ergonomic handling of paper reels on their way between paper mill and customers.
In November 1999 SECU started to be used at Stora Enso Hylte. SECU is described as a larger variant of a standard sea container, and is especially developed in order to give maximum transport efficiency on the railroad lines which are adapted for those massive transports.
The paper reels are lifted by gantry cranes with vacuumlifter from the conveyors onto the Trancel LOADMATE® system, which is loading one container at the time. The cranes can by
means of a specific software arrange the reels in the most efficient way for optimising the load in each container.

Less risk for reel damage
We have eliminated most of the handling of the paper reels with small clamp trucks, which reduces the risks for damage to the reels, says Michael Winterkvist at Stora Enso Hylte. Now the looks of the reels is checked at the same time as they are identified at the loading station. Then we feel comfortable, because the reels will look the same at their arrival to the customers. From Hylte the SECU are transported by train to Göteborg. From the port of Göteborg, the SECU are transported with special ships to a new terminal in the port of Belgian Zeebrugge. Here the paper reels are retrieved from the SECU by another Trancel LOADMATE® and reloaded to different carriers, trains, trucks or standard containers, for onward transportation to the end users. Besides the pure environment and working environment advantages for the personnel, it will improve cost saving and delivery efficiency for the new loading and transport system.
"We started in November 1999 and the efficiency of the loading system is amazing, says Michael Winterqvist.
